India has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 at COP26, Glasgow. Its new pledge includes increasing the country’s installed renewable capacity to 500 GW, meeting 50 percent of its energy requirements from non-fossil fuel sources, reducing carbon emissions by 1 billion tonnes, and bringing down the carbon emissions intensity of the economy by 45 percent from 2005 levels.

India, the third-largest emitter of carbon dioxide, aimed to reduce the economy-wide emissions intensity by 33-35 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, has set a target of 40 percent installed capacity from renewable energy resources. 

The dependency on non-renewal energy has increased degradational effects on the environment, which has caused huge concerns to countries worldwide.   • According to the company’s press release, the solar plant will be spread across 1,500 acres in Rajasthan and is estimated to be complete in the next 18 months.
  • “Vikram Solar has had a long-standing business relation with NTPC. Previously, they have executed 50-MW solar plant project in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh and 130 MW solar project in Bhadla, Rajasthan for NTPC,” Mr Venkat Muvvala, Head of EPC and O&M, Vikram Solar, said.

NTPC Limited is India’s largest power generation utility with roots planted way back in 1975 to accelerate power development in India. Since then it has established itself as the dominant power major with a presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business.

Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) is a CPSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), set up on 20th Sept 2011 to facilitate the implementation of JNNSM and achievement of targets set therein. It is the only CPSU dedicated to the solar energy sector. It was originally incorporated as a section-25 (not-for-profit) company under the Companies Act, 1956.

However, through a Government of India decision, the company has recently been converted into a Section-3 company under the Companies Act, 2013. The mandate of the company has also been broadened to cover the entire renewable energy domain.
